TODAY IS THE DAY!

It is finally time, 2009 Florida Film Festival starts today! I just stopped by the Enzian Theater to pick up my staff badge and everyone is bustling with excitement, setting up the ticket tents, and preparing all the delish food for the Food & Wine Weekend (27-29). I am completely jazzed about this Festival, its my first film festival and to be a part of it is AWESOME! So what do we have lined up for tonight? Well, we have our first Original Cinema & Forbidden Fruit film, Management @6:30pm starring Jennifer Aniston and Steve Zahn and then the Opening Night Party @ 8:30pm! Tons of fabulous people will be there including Iron Chef Cat Cora and renowned director Ken Russell. Can't wait for tonight! Hello All!

Sorry, I know it has been awhile since I posted last. I went on a trip to Jacksonville to post for the fest then promptly got sick when I got back. So, my apologies for not posting until now.

Anyway,

The trip went really well in Jacksonville. It was me, Rachael, and my friend Erica who went and we managed to post in quite a few places all over. Everyone was very friendly and in the few places that told us we could not post in their windows, they took one of our posters to put up in their employee lounge. So, rock on!

We also headed out to St. Augustine on our way back from Jacksonville but, unfortunately we were not able to really post anywhere. The few places that were open on Sunday were packed with so many tourists that we were not able to find any parking within walking distance. Erica had a cold and I did not want to submit her to the torture of walking over a mile to try to get to the four places we saw open. :(

My only real complaint, however, for the trip was Daytona's motorcycle week which was going on while we were driving through. We got cut off on the road so much! Nearly had a dozen or more accidents, with the closest being a motorcycle that cut in-front of us by inches of our front bumper and then began hitting his brakes!!! I tell you what! That was scary!

I filmed some of the trip and am now trying to edit it together into a short for all to see. Hopefully it will be up by tomorrow! We should also be seeing something soon from Original Cinners Jon and Gabe from their Miami trip this past weekend!

Let me preface this by saying that I am a celebrity gossip addict. Yeah, it's trash. Yeah, it won't better society, but I don't care. It's my break during the day. (And in case you're wondering my two favorite sites are PerezHilton.com and dListed.com.)

So today I got home from getting my car tuned up and decide to check on Perez before I go out to run a few errands. Lo and behold! A (soon-to-be) familiar celebrity is on the front page- Cat Cora! Today she announced that she is 4-1/2 months pregnant with a boy. Congrats! She and her partner, Jennifer, already have two sons together.

Now. Here's where it gets crazy. Not only is Cat pregnant, her partner is also pregnant! Cat is carrying Jennifer's biological child. Jennifer could be carrying Cat's or her own but neither are too sure- she was implanted with both embryos. Jennifer is expected to deliver in April (festival baby, perhaps?).

These buns in the oven will definitely make for one interesting Festival! Congrats to Cat and Jennifer once again!

Hey guys - been a while since I blogged. Been busy with school and life, you know how it is.

So the Tampa trip went well and now Gabe and I are headed to Miami/Fort Lauderdale this weekend to promote for the 2009 Florida Film Festival down there. We've got the posters - the traditional one, the one with Cat Cora and the final one with Glenn Close - this year's major celebrity guest. So that should be fun.

So I saw Watchmen on Opening Night - specifically at midnight. Great movie - not as good or dark as Dark Knight, but pretty gritty; pretty good. Last night, I watched Fanboys at the CityWalk theatre and then Into The Wild, the Sean Penn-directed movie starring Emile Hirsh. Both movies were amazing for different reasons - Fanboys because of all the cameos, hilarity and heart; Into The Wild because it was a true story and Emile Hirsh's performance was electric.

Well, guys and gals, that's all I got for today. Today is my Lazy Day - which is ironic since I need to start my homework. Later!

Day Trip #1

Hey guys, it's Original Cinner Jon here.

Fellow Original Cinners Rachael, Gabe and I just got back from our first Day Trip to a nearby Drive-By Market. We're doing this as the "Marketing Street Team" - spreading the word about the 2009 FFF. Today we hit St. Petersburg, Tampa and Lakeland. Rachael and I both got pics that we'll put up on Facebook and some on here and Gabe took video. We should have all that stuff up within the next few days.

Right now, though, I'm just gonna chill in front of the TV and veg out 'cause for the next three days I'm gonna be covering MegaCon for a website I frequent. It's cool, though - I'm looking forward to it.

So I'm not going to talk about the Oscars. They kind of bore me. I think the only one I ever really liked was when that guy streaked across the stage back in the 70's.

Since you've been hearing so much from everybody on the Marketing end of the team, I think it's time to bring you up to speed on the programming side. We have our films and although I've only watched about 1/3 of them, I can definitely say that this year's fest is going to be the best yet (and I've been attending for quite a few years now). There are so many films touching on many different subjects, I know that I am going to have a hard time picking which ones to see. But hang on! Announcements are coming in March so keep on checking our website and blog for all of that fun information!

In other news, I just interviewed Less Than Jake for a local magazine I write for and I do not think I've ever had such a scattered interview. I think we spoke about their music for a total of three minutes but touched on everything from emocore kids to double chocolate ice cream to Australia (where they were at the time) to wrestling, amongst other things. Hopefully I'll be able to have a lot of fun interviews like that during the Festival on WPRK 91.5fm, an amazingly awesome college radio station in Orlando and one that I've been DJing at for four years.

Oscar Screening at Eden Bar!

Happy Monday everyone!

Last night Hollywood's biggest night was celebrated at Eden Bar at Enzian Theater. It was an awesome turn out with our very own Sig joining the festivities. Staying at the bar to watch the Oscar showdown on a much larger screen than most of us have at home was a wonderful experience and on top of that, there was delish food! So, whoever missed out on the Oscar screening I'm reporting to you it was a great time and definitely made the long process that is the Oscars seem a lot more entertaining at Enzian.

As I am sure you guys have noticed that Rachael did a fantastic job at summarizing the Oscars but I have an urge to share some opinions. First of all, Hugh Jackman was a great host -- about time to have a foxy host that can sing, dance, and be funny! The presenters ranging from Sophia Loren, Natalie Portman, Ben Stiller a.k.a. Joaquin Phoenix for that night, Robert Deniro etc.. really made it worth watching. And the montage with James Franco and Seth Rogan was hilarious.

But as always the Academy completely overlooks some actors and movies. I personally do not understand what happened to recognizing Frank Langella as Nixon in Frost/Nixon, not to say that Sean Penn was not fabulous in Milk.. Also the sweep of Slumdog feels bittersweet to me. Its amazing to see a movie that was about to go nowhere turn into an Oscar winning (8 Oscars) picture but it would have been nice to see the Academy recognize other films for their incredible achievements like, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Dark Knight, and Waltz with Bashir.

All in all the Oscars were good this year from the musical performances, montages, and speakers before each major actor award. And apparently the American public enjoyed the Oscars since its' ratings went up 10% from last year!

Academy, thank you...

Yea!!! The Academy Awards!!!

Rachael here and I just got back from watching the 2009 Academy Awards Ceremony at Full Sail University. Wow! What a performance! I was amazed at seeing how well they have turned the ceremony around compared to recent years. One of my favorite changes was them having five previous winners come out to announce the nominees, and then the winner, of the acting awards. I thought it was classy and infuses the ceremony with just the right amount of history. Oh! And I must say, Hugh Jackman ROCKS as a host/singer/comedian/actor/man! Yes indeed he can do what he wants because after all, he is 'Wolverine', and boy does he make things fun!

But that aside, there were also some great films and stars to have won at this years Oscars. The forefront winner of so many awards was Danny Boyle's, Slumdog Millionaire. An amazing film and worthy to have won so much. Danny Boyle himself was fantastic to watch all through the ceremonies as he consistently had a huge grin upon his face the whole time! (although hopefully it was not because of that one dancers left breast hanging out for an entire acceptance speech...)

Other memorable moments...

Heath Ledger winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Most everyone in the audience, both there at the Awards and at the Full Sail event with me, had tears in their eyes as the award was accepted by Ledger's parents and sister in honer of his daughter, Matilda.

On the lighter side of things, another memorable moment was Kate Winslet in search of her father. She knew he was in the audience but had no clue where so she asked him to whistle, and boy did he whistle! Above all the noise that are usually at such events, you could hear her father clear as day. It was incredibly sweet and I only hope one day if I ever win an Oscar my dad does the same.

Well... thats about it for now. It has been a long but very exciting evening and I need to rest up before my trip to the coast this week to advertise this years Florida Film Festival.

Rachael - The Original Cinner

That time of the year again...

That's right, in case you haven't heard...it's The OSCARS!

Honestly, despite being a Film grad, I've never been able to sit through the ENTIRE program - I usually just watch the awards that I care about - normally the big ones - Best Picture, Best Actor, Supporting Actor, Best Actress, etc.

This year, I think, is going to be good. I mean, let's just for a quick second take a look at some of the nominees.

As far as Best Actor goes, I saw both Milk and The Wrestler while they were at the Enzian and I gotta say - it's a dead heat between Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke. It could go either way. I never saw Benjamin Button, The Visitor (although I've heard good things) or Frost/Nixon yet.

The sentimentalist in me wants Heath Ledger to win for Supporting Actor (although I'm still quite dismayed that The Dark Knight only got the one major nomination) and I think he will. However, both James Brolin and Robert Downey Jr. have legitimate shots, too. Both played solid, memorable roles in their respective films - Milk and Tropic Thunder.

I can't say that I saw any of the films that the Leading Actresses or Supporting Actresses are in (save for Marisa Tomei's performance in The Wrestler - phenomenal), so we'll skip those for now.

Finally, the big one. Best Picture. Out of those five nominated, I've only seen Milk. I've heard great things about Slumdog Millionaire, but I never got around to seeing it. Personally, I'm kind of upset that neither The Dark Knight nor Wall-E were nominated for this award - they both certainly deserved consideration.

So that's what I'll be doing on Sunday night - flipping between the Oscars and Family Guy, all the while trying to write a report for school, probably.

Introducing Tina

Hey all! I guess I should introduce myself since I've posted 2 times here already. My name is Tina and I'm one of the Marketing interns here at Enzian and the Florida Film Festival. If you went to Halloween Horror Nights this past year, you'd probably recognize me as the girl who got her spine ripped out in the Body Collectors house. That is me to the left. I just realized that whoever did my make-up that night totally flour bombed me. Whatever!

Anyway, I'm really excited to work this year's festival; it'll be my first film festival ever. They keep me pretty busy here so I'll blog when I can. More likely than not, I'll be posting fliers, videos, photos, etc. on here and on our social networking sites.

Sneak Peak of Two Lovers

Yesterday Tina and I (Masha) had the privilege of going to see a press screening of Two Lovers at the Enzian Theater. Two Lovers is directed by James Gray and stars our favorite crazy actor, Joaquin Phoenix and the always classy, Gwyenth Paltrow. The compellation of actors alone in Two Lovers is worth seeing, Vanessa Shaw, Isabella Rossellini, and Moni Moshonov.

The movie has a great setting of the city Brooklyn, which I personally have a sentimental attachment to. Phoenix’s performance is stunning as always, he delivers us a character with solid emotions. Phoenix acts alongside Paltrow, who is undoubtedly perfect for the role, and conveniently enough the character was written with her in mind. And let’s not forget Phoenix’s other lover, Vanessa Shaw – who is stunning in her part. The movie manages to create a modern love story that deals with family, relationships, and culture.

Two Lovers will be premiering on March 6^th at Enzian Theater and you don’t want to miss out on this love story.

Hey All. This is Gabe. The third installment of the marketing intern trio comprised of Jon, Rachel and myself.

Just one more week before the big road trip to Tampa in order to create more buzz for the Florida Film Festival. In other great news, A new Hell's Kitchen comes on tonight at 9 on FOX. This seems pertinent to watch only cause it's awesome and because it's food and entertainment. What else is food and entertainment? Obviously it would be this years Florida Film Festival. Also, if there are any college basketball fans there is a big Duke game on tonight at 7. Get ready for the MADNESS!!!

Anyways, keep on a lookout for my facebook page for the FFF. Original Gabe is the name and Original Cinema is the game? That was almost humor. Is the 3D trend a lasting effect?

Part I – 3D Animation

Hello Everyone! I’m Masha the new press intern for Enzian Theater/FFF. It’s going to be an extremely exciting experience working here and I can’t wait for the FFF to kick off!

Recently Henry Selick’s movie, Coraline hit theaters and of course I wasted no time paying extra for my really cool looking 3D glasses and getting a look at the new trend of movies -- 3D animation. To say the least it was a magical experience, I felt like I was a kid again watching a world on screen that felt better than the world I live in. So, besides the fact that it was the first stop-motion animated feature to be shot entirely in 3D and its’ production was outstanding I wonder -- is the 3D effect here to stay, or is it a passing trend?

History would tell us it’s a passing trend. In the early 1950’s when TV became a norm to have at home, movie studios became nervous and soon enough began to lose box office revenue. But they thought of a clever way to get those TV dinner Americans back to the movies and that was 3D technology. Unfortunately for the head honchos excessive expenses and technical difficulties brought 3D film production into the ground. Fast forward to the early 1980’s 3D cinema experienced a brief revival by the studios because of a loss of revenue from the invention of the VCR. People could rent movies and watch them at home! (Sounding familiar?) But the public did not seem to take the bait and 3D went away as quickly as it came.

So now we are here in 2009 with movies like Coraline in Real D that proved to be successful at the box office, grossing $42 million so far. Clearly that shows the movie going audience took a great liking to the concept, and has now probably opened doors to many studios too scared to take the leap into 3D. I think 3D Animation can really bring back the spark of a movie experience – because that’s what we’re really looking for, an experience. We deserve to see stunning and stimulating movies, like Coraline. Animation seems like a great genre to explore 3D but are dramas and comedies going to be able to pull off the 3D technology – I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned...

It's Wednesday.

So many things to be excited about. A new LOST (how do they get back to the island?); almost the weekend; almost the 6th of March - Watchmen comes out that day, if you didn't know.

We all have our days that we look forward to, and while I love the weekend (who doesn't?), I really like Wednesdays. I don't know why exactly - probably because it's just the build-up to the weekend.

Also, next Thursday, fellow interns Rachael, Gabe and I will be making a trip down to the Tampa/St. Pete area to do some street team marketing and video blogging~! So yeah, after Thursday, you'll actually get to see and "meet" us! Yay technology! Yay Wednesday!

Dinner and a Show!

Hey Guys, name's Jon. I'm one of the FFF/Enzian interns - specifically on the Marketing street team right now. As I blog more, you'll get to know me more!

Anyways, I just wanted to tell you about my latest adventure - Medieval Times! I went there last night for the first time in quite a while and I have to tell you - boy it was fun. Just eating with your bare hands while brightly colored knights go all out for your entertainment. Yelling with your mouth full of Pepsi and chicken while your knight fights for his "life" in the sandy pit of death! Good times, great memories.

Ever since I was a teen, I always loved watching TV or a flick while eating dinner. Some will say that dinner time is family time - eat around the table and talk about how each person's day was. Not me. Nothing brings a family together, in my opinion, then sitting around the television, being entertained, while eating some fresh home cookin'. I guess that's why I like the Enzian so much - as opposed to other movie theatres, you can actually eat a MEAL and still get the show. Of course, if you just want popcorn (it's a must for movies, I don't care who you are), they've got that too!

Dinner and a show - a great combination, I think.

FFF is getting closer...

and there is way too much to do! Of course, everybody is excited around here as we try to lock-in our schedule and decide on who we want to come to the Fest! Of course, I cannot tell you any of that right now, but stay tuned for some fantastic updates that will have you jumping out of your seat!

For now, I'm working on quite a few things outside of FFF. For one, the radio station I am promotions director for, WPRK 91.5fm, is working on bringing in some big-name hip-hop artists to town in the spring.

I am also pretty pumped for the Harvest of Hope music festival going down in the beginning of March at St. Augustine. Since Langerado was canceled due to sluggish ticket sales, Harvest of Hope has been picking up quite a few acts while others are booking shows for Orlando. Personally, I'm excited about seeing Lucero, Modest Mouse, and the Bouncing Souls. Since I have to spend my spring break here at FFF, I figured I would indulge and go to as many Orlando shows as possible.

However, for the time being I'll be working away here at FFF three times a week. I have to say, I am really excited for Che Part One & Two, which is going to be playing at Enzian in mid-February. I've always loved radicals and I think this film is not going to disappoint.
